PBRC Has Come A Long Way

By Russ
From its humble beginnings in 2002, Phuket Boarriders Club sure has come a long way.  It all started with a T-Shirt designed over many beers at Sabai Beach Restaurant where we hung out with Mr T at his Board Hire.

 First_Meeting_Aug2002.JPG

Back then, we had only one major sponsor, Surf Hardware International which supplied Gorilla Grip, FCS fins and legropes as prizes for our first two contests in 2003.  Looking at all current and recent sponsors, plus Quicksilver's sponsorship of the Thailand Surf Series, our original vision to "strengthen local surfing and friendships" has most certainly been realised.

As a founding member, I'm stoked to have been involved with Tom, Mr T, Kid, Bud, Joob and the many others who worked so hard to get the club up and running. To all the people actively involved in supporting Phuket Boardriders, good on you and keep surfing!

The original website is still online at http://www.afflecksolutions.com.au/surfphuket/ and includes many hundreds of photos from the club's first meeting, all contests 2003-2005 and the many parties we enjoyed together. The Andaman Post article I wrote in 2003 is also available and worth a read - it was PBRC's first publicity.
